Southside Dojo to host Judo Junior National Training Days!

The focus of the Junior National Training Days, will be to bring together Konan Junior Athletes planning to participate in any of the three sanctioned Junior National tournaments. This is not purely a clinic, but rather a competitive practice for junior athletes, to help them prepare for national competition. Various instructors will be conducting the sessions and the focus will be on tactics, building endurance, randori opportunity with peers and instructors outside your dojo.  Our goal is to have various participants practice with other like minded athletes that they might not otherwise get a chance to practice with.  The sessions will be staffed by various coaches from throughout Konan. If you plan to attend a national tournament, do not miss these two opportunities to get yourself ready mentally and physically.

Day 1: May 17 (Shojin Judo, Inc. Detroit, MI)
Day 2: June 14 (Southside Dojo, Kalamazoo, MI)

Registration:    12:00 pm – 12:30 pm
Clinic               12:30 pm – 2:30 pm

SSD Community Service

SSD provided another great self-defense demonstration at Western Michigan University in March. Judo instructors Joe VanDenBoom and Jamie Blake paired up to talk about violence prevention and basic tactics to escape and survive a rape or date rape incident. About thirty students participated in the annual event sponsored by the Women's Studies Program which took place in the Barnhard Student Center on Campus March 25, 2008.

SSD would like to thank Professor Janet Heller for setting up this annual demonstration to help keep our community safer.

On March 16, 2008 - Southside Dojo took a team of Judo Players to the 2008 Michigan State Judo Championships. Congratulations to all who competed! Here are the results.
